Frequently asked questions

How does BAC estimation work?
Sipora uses the Widmark formula, a widely referenced method for estimating blood alcohol content. The formula takes into account the total amount of alcohol consumed, your body weight, biological sex, and the time elapsed since drinking began. The result is an estimate — individual physiology, food intake, metabolism, and other variables can cause real BAC to differ significantly from the app's output.
Why are the results estimates and not measurements?
No mobile app can measure actual blood alcohol content. Real BAC depends on many variables that Sipora cannot access: your current metabolic rate, what you've eaten, hydration level, individual enzyme activity, medications, and more. The Widmark formula produces a plausible approximation — not a clinical measurement. Always treat the output as a rough guide, not a precise reading.
Why might my result differ from another app?
Different apps use different constants for metabolic rate, different assumptions about body water distribution, and slightly different versions of the Widmark formula. Small differences in these parameters produce different outputs. None of them are definitively "correct" — they are all estimates based on population-level averages that may not match your individual situation.
What limitations should I be aware of?
Sipora cannot account for: individual tolerance levels, the effects of food on alcohol absorption rate, health conditions that affect alcohol metabolism, medications that interact with alcohol, or variations in actual pour sizes versus the sizes you enter. The more accurately you enter your drink data, the more useful the estimate — but even perfect inputs produce an approximation, not a measurement.
How should I use Sipora responsibly?
Use Sipora as an awareness tool, not as a decision-making authority. Never use an estimated BAC to decide whether it is safe to drive, operate machinery, or engage in any safety-sensitive activity. The safest BAC for driving is zero. If you have any doubt about whether you are fit to drive, do not drive — regardless of what the app shows.
Is my data stored online or shared with anyone?
No. All session data, history, and preferences are stored locally on your device only. Sipora does not connect to any server, does not require an account, and does not transmit any data. You own your data entirely. It stays on your device until you delete it.

Troubleshooting

The estimated BAC seems unexpectedly high or low

Double-check your inputs: drink volume, alcohol percentage (ABV), body weight units (kg vs lb), and the time elapsed since you started drinking. Small input differences cause significant changes in the estimate. All results are estimates — they can vary from actual BAC.

My session history is not appearing

Make sure the app has storage permissions. On your device, go to Settings → Apps → Sipora → Permissions and verify storage access is granted. If the problem continues, try force-closing and reopening the app.

The app is not behaving as expected

Try force-closing the app and reopening it. If the issue persists, contact support with a description of the problem, your device model, and your Android version.
